Tips for installing floor mats on uneven car floors

Hey all,
I just bought some custom rubber floor mats for my old SUV, but the floors are a bit uneven and the mats won’t sit flat in a couple spots (mostly near the passenger seat where the floor curves weirdly). Anyone got tips for getting mats to lay properly on uneven surfaces? Thanks in advance!0 likes 0 likes

Hey! I had a similar issue with my SUV mats. You can try gently heating the mats with a hairdryer to make them more flexible, then press them into place to mold better to the curves. Also, using some non-slip mat tape underneath can help keep them from shifting. If you're upgrading more of your interior, you might also check out these waterproof seat covers — they’ve worked great for me: https://stablelastore.com/products/waterproof-leather-seat-covers-for-car1 Good luck!

You can try warming up the rubber mats with a heat gun or leaving them in the sun for a while—they’ll become more pliable and easier to mold to the floor’s shape. Once softened, press them firmly into place and let them cool down while weighted (books or bricks work well). You can also use double-sided Velcro or automotive carpet tape in stubborn areas to help keep them flat.
