Ecorial is a new, innovative website and app that helps you create nature memorials for those who have passed on. One of its notable features is that it allows everyone who loved and admired the person who passed to interact with their memorial. To share your memories, find your loved one’s memorial. Finding a Memorial Through the Ecorial App

Using the Ecorial app to find a memorial is easy. Follow these steps.

1. If you don’t already have the app on your phone or tablet, go to your app store and search for Ecorial. “Ecorial, Memories in Nature” will appear. Click the download button, and you’re all set. This app is free to use and should download instantly.

2. You can use this app in two different ways. One, as a guest without logging in, or two, as a member by creating a free account and logging in.

3. It is easy to find a memorial on the app as a guest. At the bottom of the screen is a navigation bar with buttons. Click on the “memory map” button. A map of your country and your specific area will appear. (People are using Ecorial to record their memorials worldwide, so if you look at the whole map, you can see memorials from Egypt to China.) Memorials are shown as small, colored, rimmed circles. The colors represent different types of memorials: tree planting, scattering on land, and burials. This includes water scatterings and burials. You can tap the circles to see the memorial details: name, birth and death dates, exact coordinates of their resting place, and type of memorial. Only memorials that are open to the public will be able to be viewed this way. Closed memorials appear as anonymous, but you can still see the coordinates and type of ceremony.

4. At the top of the Memory Map is a search bar where you can enter the name of the person who passed. Their memorial will stay up while the others fade away. Click on their memorial to be taken to their memorial page. This is where having an account comes in handy because once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to add memories to their page and interact with others who loved the person who passed.

5. If you’re looking for a private memorial, check your email or texts for a shared link to take you to the private memorial.

6. If you choose to create an account and log in, the process is the same, except now you can create and manage memorials in addition to interacting with them.

Finding a Memorial Through the Ecorial Website

Using Ecorial’s state-of-the-art website to find a memorial is even easier than using the app.

1. Go to Ecorial.org. There are two main links to the memory map. The first is at the top of the website in their navigation bar. (A navigation bar is the row of links that take you to different parts of the website.) Click “Memory Map” to go to the map page.

2. Or, on the home page, if you scroll down, there is a large, beautiful map with pictures of the memorials. Click on the image to go to the map page.

3. A large map of your location will appear, along with the colored circles indicating memorials. If you know the rough location of your loved one’s resting place, you can go to the area and magnify. This will likely give you, at most, a handful of memorials to search through. If you know how your loved one was laid to rest (burial, tree planting, water scattering), you can look for the appropriate colored circle. Green means tree planting, blue means scattering in water, brown means scattering on land, and purple indicates a burial. Alternatively, you can use the search bar at the top of the map and search with their name. If you’re unsure how to spell part of their name, you can enter either their first or last name.

Once you’ve located the memorial you were looking for, it’s up to you how you interact. Some people like to visit the location and record a memory video or photo to upload to the person’s memorial page. Other people find looking at the memorial on the map comforting. If you’re logged in to the app, you can “favorite” your loved one’s memorial for easy access. And, you might find it comforting to interact with other people who loved the one who passed by sharing a written memory on their memorial page. These pages are also a beautiful place to share photos of the person who passed, where they will live on as a memorial, and be a gift to the others who are mourning.
