Myths about "hot" and "cold"

I always hear about "hot" and "cold" game , but I can't figure out where the truth is. They say that if a machine hasn't given out for a long time. Does this even work or is it just a myth? I'd really like to hear the opinions of knowledgeable people or those who have actually tested it. Please help me figure it out!
